(PRESS RELEASE) LA DÉFENSE, 14-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has awarded Thales a new contract to produce secure, next-generation driver’s licenses and ID cards. With this second consecutive partnership, Thales will supply nearly 225,000 advanced polycarbonate cards annually for up to 10 years. Alaska residents will be the first in the U.S. to receive these innovative, laser-engraved cards featuring translucent windows for enhanced security.

In addition to physical security, Thales’ Cogent Multi Biometric System will provide biometric verification to further safeguard identities and prevent fraud. The new driver’s licenses and ID cards will be available across Alaska DMV sites starting in fall 2024.

Lauren Whiteside, Operations Manager for the Alaska DMV, emphasized the importance of this renewed partnership, noting the advanced protection these new credentials will offer against evolving security threats. Tony Lo Brutto, Vice President for Thales Identity and Biometric Solutions in North America, expressed confidence in continuing to deliver state-of-the-art identity solutions for Alaska.
