    Cate Blanchett, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, to address European Parliament

    On Wednesday at 15:00, before the start of the plenary session, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett will address MEPs. Ms Blanchett has been a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador since 2016 and will share her experience of, and insights into, raising public awareness about the plight of refugees and stateless people worldwide.

    Debate on 26 – 27 October EU summit with Presidents Michel and von der Leyen

    At around 15.30, MEPs will discuss the results of the latest EU summit with Presidents Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen. During their meeting, heads of state or government assessed the situation in Israel and Gaza, following Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel, Russia’s war against Ukraine, the revision of the EU’s 2024-2027 long-term budget, and the reform of the EU’s asylum and migration system.

    Reducing road transport emissions

    In the early evening, Parliament will debate its position on new Euro 7 rules to lower pollutant emissions and set battery durability requirements for passenger cars, vans, buses and trucks. There will be a press conference with the lead MEP after the votes on Thursday at 13.30.

    In brief

    Three new EU revenue sources for the EU budget. In the late afternoon, Parliament will debate with Commissioner Simson the introduction of the next generation of EU “own resources”, which will be sourced from the Emission Trading System, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and from additional taxes on corporate profits. The vote will take place on Thursday.

    State of the Energy Union. From around 17.00, MEPs will quiz Commissioner Simson on the energy situation in the EU and ongoing preparations to ensure that sufficient energy supply will be available this winter.
