    New law to boost use of renewable energy

    Starting around 20.00, MEPs will discuss a draft directive to increase the share of renewables in the EU’s final energy consumption to 42.5% by 2030, in line with the EU’s Green Deal and REPowerEU initiatives. The legislation, already agreed with member states, will also speed up the approval process for new renewable energy power plants. The final vote by plenary will take place on Tuesday.

    Common procurement of defence equipment to support the industry and replenish stocks

    Immediately after plenary opening at 17.00, MEPs will assess a new set of rules to incentivise EU countries to jointly procure defence products and support the EU’s defence industry. MEPs will hold a final vote on the text, already agreed with Council, on Tuesday.

    Reform of EP’s internal rules to improve transparency, integrity and accountability

    In a debate around 19.00, MEPs will discuss amendments to the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, based on President’s Metsola 14-point reform plan. The changes need the backing of an absolute majority of the Chamber to be adopted. The vote will take place on Wednesday.

    Composition of the Parliament: committee vote

    The Committee on Constitutional Affairs will vote at 19.00 on the draft Council decision on the composition of the European Parliament for the 2024 European elections, raising the total number of MEPs to 720, from the current 705. If confirmed by the committee, the proposal will be tabled for a plenary vote on Wednesday.

    In brief

    Improving the EU’s surface and groundwater quality. Starting around 18.00, MEPs will debate updated rules to protect groundwater and surface waters from pollution through better monitoring and control of water pollutants. A plenary vote will follow on Tuesday.

    New geographical indications for crafts and industrial products. Later in the evening, plenary will discuss draft legislation to protect EU crafts and industrial products, as is currently done for food and drinks. The vote will take place on Tuesday.
